I just wanted to share this email that I recently got from a young man asking me for some advice on how he could get started with his own Internet Marketing business.

I added you on FB a few weeks back after passing through your Youtube videos about entrepreneurship and making money online.
Thought you was a very interesting guy and new a lot about what your talking about.
A little bit about me I’ve just finished 6th form and honestly don’t know what to do! all i know is that i don’t want to go straight in to the rat race like most people do! i am determined to stay out of it!

Rather than just answer one email I thought I would share this information on my blog in the hope that it might inspire other people who are in a similar situation and don’t know how to get started.
The first thing you need to do is find a “Mentor”….. someone who had already become a successful “Internet Marketer” and is willing to teach and share their knowledge with you. Please don’t underestimate how important this first step is…. If you get it right and find a Mentor who has already achieved online success then you will save yourself a lot of time and more importantly money. One word of caution on this subject…..what ever you do make sure that you do your due diligence and find someone that is really prepared to help you. You need someone that is approachable and someone who returns you emails/calls.
Once you have a Mentor, you will have someone that can teach you how to master the 3 things you need for a “Successful Internet Business”
What are the 3 things you need for a successful Internet Business
No 1 …. A Website
This is the easy part, even if you have no experience in building websites you can do one of two things. Either outsource it and get someone to build it for you or what I preferred to do is learn how to do it my-self. Believe it or not, this blog you are reading now is all my own work. I had no prior knowledge of how to build a website but I took action and found out how to do it. Once you know the basics of a “WordPress Blog” it is very easy to build and maintain your own site. I would highly recommend you learn how to to this for your-self at least when you first get started as it will allow you to stay in control of your sites and you won’t be paying a web designer every time you want to update your site.
No 2 …. A Product
Again this is not to difficult a task…. You have lots of options with this one, some people create their own, others source them from sites like “Click Bank” or “Click2Sell”. There are thousands of products on the market that you can join as an affiliate partner and everything is every is done for you, all you need to do is market your own exclusive affiliate link. You can also join Biz Ops like “YourNetBiz” or “Primo Vacation”, this is what I would recommend for most people who are serious about starting a legitimate online business.
No 3 …. TRAFFIC
This is the most important part of the equation…… Traffic is the life blood of any business, whether its an offline business that relies on people/customers coming into a high street shop, or an 0nline business the relies on people/customers visiting a website……. TRAFFIC = Sales = Profits
You can have the best Website or Product in the world but without Traffic, you won’t have any customers to look at your website and buy your products, so you wont make any money. I hope you can now see why Traffic is so important and why it is imperative that you learn the skills needed to drive traffic to your sites and generate sales leads. If you ask anyone in the industry what the one thing they would like more of I’m sure most would answer “More Traffic”, and in my experience it is the main thing that most people struggle with, especially when they first get started online.
So How Do I Generate Traffic ?
There are basically two ways you can generate traffic, firstly is the paid method, via services such as “Google Adword’s or Pay Per Click” but this is a more advanced method an I would recommend you completely understand the financial cost of PPC before you undertake a campaign.
The second way and what I would recommend especially for beginners is the “Free Traffic” method. Using social media such as Facebook, Twitter & Youtube is a very powerful way to generate “FREE” traffic ….. but ONLY if it is done in the correct way…..and that is what I teach my students.
Once you learn to generate traffic you can then start to build what we in the industry call “A List”…..which is basically a list of loyal subscribers that have opted in to one of you website promotions. The reason that a list is so powerful is because as you find new products or service that you want to promote, all you have to do is send out an email to everyone on your list. Because they have already indicated an interest in you products/service or have already purchased from you, they will value your recommendations and are therefore are more likely to purchase again.
So I hope you now understand why the most important skill you need to master to become a successful Internet Marketer is “How To Generate Traffic”.
